Can You Hide an Album on iPhone? What Photos Can Lock, and the Workarounds
No, not directly. The Photos app on iPhone cannot hide, lock, or password-protect an album you created. What it can do is hide individual photos, and any number of them at once, which moves them into one system album called Hidden that is locked with Face ID. So the practical answer to "can I make a private album" is: you cannot lock your album, but you can move everything in it behind a lock in about ten seconds. How to hide a whole album's worth of photos
- Open Photos and open the album.
- Tap Select, then Select All.

- Your original album is still listed, now empty. Touch and hold it to rename it or delete it. Deleting an album never deletes the photos that were in it.

Make sure the Hidden album is really locked
Since iOS 16 the Hidden and Recently Deleted albums are locked by default. The limits of the Hidden album
- It is one pile. You cannot create albums inside Hidden, so the holiday photos, the documents, and the gift surprises all end up together.
- It opens with the phone's own unlock. Anyone who knows your iPhone passcode can open Hidden. A partner or a child who unlocks your phone regularly has the key.
- It syncs. With iCloud Photos on, hidden photos are hidden on your iPad and Mac too, which is convenient, but it also means they exist on every device signed in to your Apple Account.
- Shared Albums are different. A photo you hide is not removed from a Shared Album you already posted it to. Remove it there separately.

Lock the whole Photos app
On iOS 18 and later you can require Face ID to open an app. Touch and hold the Photos icon on the Home Screen, choose Require Face ID, and confirm. Now the whole library is behind a lock, which helps when you hand someone your unlocked phone. It is all or nothing, and it still falls back to your passcode.
A locked note
