About Cleana

Cleana is made by Xeplin, a mobile app studio in Istanbul. We build AI apps that solve ordinary, annoying problems, starting with the one almost every iPhone owner runs into: a phone that says it is full when you are sure you did nothing to fill it.

Why we built Cleana

The storage problem is rarely what people expect. It is not usually apps or a phone that is too small. It is thousands of photos nobody ever sorted: ten shots of the same moment, burst frames from a single second, screenshots saved and forgotten, 4K videos of an evening that lasted three minutes and cost three gigabytes.

Sorting that by hand is miserable work. Comparing near-identical shots on a small screen, deciding which one is sharpest, doing it a thousand times over. That is exactly the kind of judgment task machine learning is good at, and exactly the kind of chore people should not have to do themselves.

So Cleana does it. It groups the duplicates and the near-duplicates, ranks each group by sharpness, framing, and whether anyone blinked, and shows you a recommendation. You stay in charge: nothing is deleted until you confirm it, and everything Cleana removes stays recoverable in Recently Deleted for 30 days.

Why everything runs on your device

Cleaning a photo library means reading the whole photo library. Holidays, family, documents, the things you photographed once and never meant to share. Sending that to a server to be analyzed is a bargain we were not willing to ask anyone to make.

So we did not build servers. Cleana has no account, no sync, and no upload path, and it works in airplane mode. This is not a policy we could quietly change in an update; it is how the app is built. The detail is in our explainer on iPhone photo privacy and on how the app works offline.

How we build

• On-device by defaultIf a feature can run on the phone, it runs on the phone. Personal data does not travel to make a product easier to build.
• You approve every deletionThe AI recommends, you decide. No silent cleanup, no automatic deletion, not even as a paid feature.
• Free to downloadThe core cleanup works for everyone. Optional in-app purchases unlock more, with no mandatory subscription.
• Honest about limitsSome things no app can do, like clearing System Data. We say so instead of promising magic.
